Where History Meets Contemporary Charm
Fargo & Co, located on Swan Street in Richmond, seamlessly blends early 20th-century grandeur with modern flair.
Since opening in 2017, this cocktail bar and rooftop venue has become a beloved local hotspot, offering a stylish setting for any occasion.
Occupying the historic 1907 State Bank building, Fargo & Co has preserved the building’s original Art Deco features while creating an exciting contemporary space.
From vintage vault doors to intricate tilework, stained glass windows, and sparkling chandeliers, the venue’s design brings the elegance of a turn-of-the-century bank into the modern era.
Constructed by Reynolds Bros for the State Savings Bank, the building was designed by the renowned architects Billing, Sons and Peck.
It is an outstanding example of Romanesque art nouveau architecture and holds significant historical value.
The Victorian Heritage Database describes it as “an extravagant example” of this style, reflecting the growing confidence of a newly federated Australia in the early 20th century.
Today, Fargo & Co retains the grandeur of a historic bank with its original green-and-gold desk lamps, tiled bar, and a brass-railed staircase leading to the second-level bar and rooftop terrace.
The venue stands as a living reminder of Richmond’s rich history, beautifully blending the past with a glamorous contemporary aesthetic.
